Ecosystems & habitats
Cold Spring Park has a wonderful diversity of ecosystems, habitats, and wildlife for a suburban park. Some are easily observable–like the Red Maple Swamp. Others are more hidden, or hidden in plain sight if you know where to look. Loss of habitat to development in Greater Boston and the world threatens this diversity. Native plants and wildlife are also threatened by invasive species, pesticides, and climate change, making it more important to protect them than ever.
