Pollinator Pathway

The Pollinator Pathway sign means this property participates in the Pollinator Action Plan of the Lincoln Land and Conservation Trust to help save our most important at-risk pollinators in Massachusetts–two species of bumblebees and ten species of butterflies. These species are in decline, with some in danger of being extirpated (locally extinct) in Massachusetts, in part because of a loss of the native plants they need to survive. The project provides participants with discounted kits and custom purchases of the specially selected native plants that they need.

The project is a partnership with renowned bee expert, Dr. Robert Gegear, of UMass Dartmouth, and Evan Abramson, of Landscape interactions, to curate a list of the best plants, plant demonstration gardens, share plant lists and garden designs for participants to use, and do a followup scientific study of the results.

This garden border (and back yard abutting Cold Spring Park) are being (slowly) transitioned to a native plant garden, featuring the Pollinator Pathway plant list. The plant list is also helping guide the restoration of the small wildflower meadow in Cold Spring Park by the Friends of Cold Spring Park.
